Shalakany was founded in 1912 by Abdelfatah El Shalakany, a prominent lawyer who reached the pinnacle of his career when he was elected as the head of the Egyptian Bar Association in 1950. Abdelfatah’s two sons, Ahmed El Shalakany and Aly El Shalakany followed in his footsteps and successfully took over the practice in the 1950s. After Ahmed El Shalakany’s tragic passing at an early age in the mid 1970s, Aly El Shalakany assumed the sole custodianship of the firm.

With the advent of the “open door” policy and the rapid rise of the role of the private sector in the economy under President Anwar El Sadat in the 1970s, the firm, under Aly El Shalakany’s leadership and vision, was able to seize the opportunity by leveraging its expertise and expanding exponentially to become one of the largest corporate law firms in Egypt and the Middle-East. In the ensuing decades, the firm continued to go from strength to strength and was actively involved in the majority of all leading corporate transactions taking place in the region.

Shalakany moved to the current premises in Marashly.
Shalakany was selected as the exclusive member of Lex Mundi in Egypt till now.
Khaled Aly El Shalakany was nominated as Managing Partner of Shalakany Law Office.
At the start of 2006, Aly El Shalakany’s son, Dr. Khaled El Shalakany, took over the reins and has successfully lead Shalakany and continued the firm’s legacy until the present day.
Aly ElShalakany Sr. passed away at the age of 84.
Shalakany was selected as the exclusive member of Meritas in Egypt.

The Firm has established a large number of leading non-governmental organizations and foundations, and provides access to critically needed legal assistance to a number of organizations, including: the Citadel Capital Scholarship Foundation, Ashoka Egypt, Endeavour Egypt, Education for Employment Foundation, Mohamed Hassanein Heikal Foundation for Arab Press, Habitat for Humanity International, Development of Technological Education Foundation and the Egyptian Education Foundation.
PRO BONO LEGAL ASSISTANCE
The Firm has adopted several human rights and women’s rights cases on a pro bono basis with the aim of creating significant precedents or changing discriminatory provisions of certain laws. The Firm is currently the sole legal counsel and strategic partner of the Ahl Masr Foundation currently constructing the first hospital of its kind in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa to offer free treatment to trauma and burn victims in Egypt.
